MUMBAI
Mumbai is the capital of the state of Maharashtra. It is earlier known as Bombay. It is a densely populated city of India. According to the United Nation, as of 2018, Mumbai was the second –most populous city in India after Delhi and the seventh –most populous city in the world with a population of roughly 20 million. It is India's largest city with a financial center.
It is located on the west
coast of India. It faces the Arabian
Sea. It has a natural harbour where ships carrying goods from other
countries travel to and from city to all parts of the world.
Mumbai comprises seven
islands - Isle of Bombay, Colaba, Old Woman's Island (Little Colaba), Mahim, Mazagaon, Parel, Worli. This island city is now connected to the main city by bridges. Since Mumbai
is situated on a coast, it has a moderate
climate. Summers are warm and damp and winters are pleasant. During June,
July and August, it gets very heavy rains.
The important offices of
the Maharashtra State Government are situated in Mumbai. The Governor, the
Chief Minister and the other ministers live and work here.
Mumbai has many factories. Most of these are mills which make cloth. Some factories make medicines, oils, chemicals and electronic goods. Crude oil has been found in the sea-bed in Bombay High. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre is situated in
Trombay near Mumbai. People from many parts of India live here. They speak their own languages. But, Marathi is the main language spoken in Mumbai.Mumbai has one of the best
transport systems in India. Most people commute by local trains. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is
one of the Hindi movies are produced here. Many film stars live in Mumbai.
Mumbai has many important institutions. Some of them are Bhabha Atomic Energy Commission, Indian Institute of

Other places of interest are Kamla Nehru Park, Jehangir Art Gallery, Taraporewala Aquarium, Prince of Wales Museum and Essel World. One can have a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea from Marine Drive. It is also called the Queen’s Necklace. Mumbai is famous for its beaches. The two beautiful beaches are Juhu and Chaupati. Nariman Point, Hanging Gardens and Elephants Caves are also worth visiting.
The Elephants Caves are 10 kms away from Mumbai. These caves are dedicated to Lord Shiva. One needs to take a steamer to reach there.
